1. Bra Size

I KNOW THAT I'M NOT WEARING THE RIGHT SIZE BUT DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO START!

We understand that it can be confusing. There are so many different sizes and brands to choose from. At Lazeme we recommend our Bra Size Calculator as a good starting point.

However, every brand and style will differ slightly and bra fitting is not an exact science, so we suggest trying a few sizes initially and the most important thing is to follow our Guide for The Perfect Fit so that you know when you have found the right fitting bra.

Always fit a new bra on the last hook and eye.

SHOULD I GET MEASURED EACH TIME I BUY A BRA, SOMETIMES THE SAME SIZE DOES NOT FIT PROPERLY?

Your bra size may change due to weight loss/gain/medication/illness or where you are in your monthly cycle. Be flexible with sizing. During your monthly cycle it's possible to gain a whole cup size, and you might need to keep a bigger bra tucked away for those more tender days.

It's all about how well the bra fits rather than the size of number/letter. Every brand and style of bra, ie. balcony or full cup, will fit slightly differently. Our advice is to familiarise yourself with what a good fitting bra should look like - The Perfect Fit

I'VE FOUND THE PERFECT CUP SIZE, 34E, BUT THE BAND IS TOO TIGHT AND CUTTING IN, SO DO I NEED A LARGER BAND WITH SMALLER CUP?

Yes, probably, your band should be firm but not too tight. You should be able to fit just two fingers under the back band. If it is much larger than that you will not get the support you need which should come from the band and not the straps.

Remember the basic bra size rule:

up in the band, down in the cup

OR down in the band, up in the cup.

This will keep the same cup size volume but just change the band size. So, in your case you would need to try a 36DD. An E cup on a 34 band will be a smaller volume than an E cup on a 36 band. This is sometimes called 'Sister Sizing'

SO MANY PLACES GIVE YOU DIFFERENT WAYS TO MEASURE, WHY ARE YOU AMONG THE ONLY FEW COMPANIES THAT DON'T ADD 4 INCHES TO THE BAND SIZE MEASURED?

The 'Plus 4' fitting method was designed in the 1950s when bras were made from cotton, linen, silk or satin and did not stretch like our modern fabrics. You don't need to add inches to your band size.

WHY IS THERE THREE SETS OF HOOKS ON A BRA STRAP IF YOU SHOULD USE THE LOOSEST?

Bras will stretch with wear and washing. The other hooks give you the flexibility to tighten the band over time so that the bra fits like it did on Day 1.

Fitting Tip: Most bra sized bikini tops will only have one back setting so it is doubly important to get the band size right in swimwear.

HOW DO I MEASURE MY CUP SIZE WHEN I HAVE SAGGY BREASTS?

As a starting point, measure when you are wearing your best fitting, non-padded bra so the breasts are lifted. Then try a few sizes and look for the all-important Perfect Fit.

2. Bra Problems

WHY IS MY BRA UNCOMFORTABLE?

If your bra feels uncomfortable or digs in then it probably means you aren't wearing the right size or style of bra.

A properly fitting bra shouldn't be torture.

Lazeme Tip: A bit like 'new shoes', wear new bras for shorter times and alternate with other bras until your new bra loosens up. You could also hand wash your new bra to soften the fabric.

The most important thing is to follow our Guide for The Perfect Fit so that you know when you have found the right fitting bra.

Always fit a new bra on the last hook and eye.

WHY DO I SEEM TO SPILL OUT THE TOP AND SIDES OF MY BRA?

It sounds like your bra is too small. Follow our guide on what a good fitting bra should look like -The Perfect Fit

MY BRA FITS AT THE BOTTOM BUT THERE IS GAPING AT THE TOP OF THE CUPS

This is probably down to the style of bra rather than the size. Try a balcony or half cup bra rather than a full cup bra.

I HAVE LOST WEIGHT AND HAVE LOOSE SKIN AND SAGGY BREASTS

We recommend trying padded or contour bras which have a thin layer of foam in the cups for shape and definition.

MY BRA STRAPS ARE ALWAYS SLIDING DOWN

Try bras with fully adjustable straps and adjust them regularly. Some bras, like Elomi Morgan, have kicked in backs or leotard shape backs. Others like Freya Deco Vibe have racerback adjusters which help solve this problem. Shop Racerback Bras.

NO MATTER WHAT SIZE BRA I USE I GET BACK FAT! WHAT SHOULD I ADJUST?

Never sacrifice a good fitting bra to avoid back fat or underarm fat. However, there are bras designed to help eliminate these problems. The Wacoal Ultimate Side Smoother Bra features an ingenious design using a side wrap detail smoothing under the arm and back.

You could also go for fuller cups which offer more coverage and wider straps. Another alternative is the longline bra which smooths under the bust area. Shop our Longline Bras.

Lazeme also offers shapewear and bodies which all help to smooth out those lumps and bumps. Shop our Shapewear and Bodies.

I GET SO HOT IN SOME BRAS, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

There are bras specially designed to keep you cool. Cotton bras like the Fantasie Speciality Bra may help or the new style Spacer Bra which features breathable fabrics are a great solution. Perfect for us ladies of a certain age!

MY UNDERWIRE HAS BROKEN - WHAT CAUSES THIS?

Firstly, make sure you are wearing the right fitting bra. If the underwire isn't sitting in the correct place, this will put stress on the wires and could cause them to break. Never, ever, tumble dry your bras and always cold handwash them. Underwires do not like heat! Lastly, make sure the bras you buy are good quality. The ranges we stock invest in better technology and more expensive materials for their underwires than cheaper alternatives.

WHY DOES MY BRA RIDE UP AT THE BACK?

Your band size is too large. Check our Bra Fit Problem page for guidance.

3. Bras for Larger Busts

WHAT STYLES ARE BEST FOR BIGGER BOOBS?

After finding your size, one of the best brands we recommend is Elomi Lingerie who specialise in bigger cup sizes. Their knowledge and experience of the curvier figure has helped design great looking and comfortable bras for the larger bust.

WHICH DESIGNS ARE BEST FOR LARGE BREASTS AND SMALL BACK SIZES?

We highly recommend Freya Lingerie. They have small back sizes and a wide range of cup sizes.

I AM A LARGER LADY AND HAVE ENORMOUS BOOBS. I STRUGGLE TO FIND A BRA THAT IS COMFORTABLE AND SEXY. WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND?

The new ranges from Elomi Lingerie are proving to be very popular. Bras that offer great support with extra sexy details like the Elomi Sachi would be one that we recommend.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET UPLIFT WHEN GETTING OLDER?

Look for padded or contour bras for added shape and definition. Push Up bras will help lift the bust, too.

4. Bra Styles and Body Shapes

I DON'T UNDERSTAND ALL THE DIFFERENT BRA STYLES?

Take a look at our Bra Style Guide for a quick overview of all the different bra styles available at Lazeme.

WHAT STYLE BRA SUITS A PEAR SHAPED BODY?

For smaller cup sized ladies, choose a bra that adds more volume like a padded or contour bra.

For larger cup sized ladies, make sure your bra provides good uplift and support to balance out your body shape by accentuating your waist. For short-waisted/petite ladies try the Elomi bandless bras which have less fabric under the cups.

WHICH STYLE OF BRA GIVES YOU THE BEST SUPPORT?

This depends on your size. For larger cup sizes you may find bras with extra side support may help. The side support can come as boning or a built in sling design.

WHAT IS THE BEST STYLE FOR LADIES WITH ONE BREAST LARGER THAN THE OTHER?

We are all different sizes and shapes and not all boobs are created identical. Moulded, padded or contour bras provide shape and definition and are good for hiding any difference in uneven breasts. Some bras have removable pads or cookies which can help if there is a large difference in sizing.

WHAT LINGERIE STYLE BEST SUIT LESS CURVY FIGURES WITH A SMALL BUST?

The balcony bra and bralettes or longline bras look fabulous on this body type.

5. Bra Care

HOW LONG SHOULD A BRA LAST?

Typically bras should last 6-9 months if worn regularly. However, if you rotate your bras in your lingerie drawer you should get more wear out of them. Once the band gets too loose then it is probably time to change it for a new one. You should only be able to fit 2 fingers inside the back band of your bra. Fit and wear new bras on the loosest hook and then as the band loosens with wear you can move to a tighter hook. That way they will last longer.

Never machine wash or dry your bras - that's a sure way to shorten their life. Always hand wash and air dry.
